Norfolk pedestrian dies after being struck by car

need-an-ambulance-1512594A pedestrian in downtown Norfolk succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident. Police say they arrived on the scene of the accident just before 10 PM the night of July 1, 2017. At the intersection of Monticello Avenue and E. 26th Street, they found a 56-year-old man lying in the near the road. A Camaro heading southbound on Monticello had struck the man. The driver stayed at the scene after the accident.

Emergency personnel took the victim to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Camaro was not charged. Police say neither alcohol nor speed played a role in the accident.

Tragically, the victim succumbed to this injuries the very next day. We send our condolences to his family and loved ones. Undoubtedly, they are dealing with overwhelming grief and questions about how such a tragedy could have occurred.
