Woman Suffers Fatal Injuries in Middleburg Crash
A woman has died after being involved in a head-on collision in Fauquier County, Virginia. The January 5, 2018 crash occurred on Route 50/John Mosby Highway in the afternoon. Police say the driver of a Dodge SUV was heading westbound on the road when they crossed over the center line and struck the victim’s car head-on. The woman suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the Dodge was also hurt in the wreck, but details on their injuries were not made public.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the Dodge, but they could be pending. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, as there is no clear reason why the driver of the Dodge steered into oncoming traffic.
Preventable Accidents
While we do not know for sure what caused this tragic accident, many head-on collisions are preventable. A failure to react to hazardous driving conditions can cause a person to swerve unexpectedly. Those driving too quickly can also lose control of their vehicle. It is also possible that the driver was attempting to pass in a no passing zone or was turning into the wrong lane.
Avoiding Lane Straddling
Many drivers will admit to straddling lanes now and then. While a few moments of miscalculation may not seem like the end of the world, straddling lanes is incredibly dangerous. Failing to maintain lanes is not just illegal, it is risky. Always make sure you are staying within your lane, especially when traveling on two-lane highways like Route 50.
