Two Killed in James City Co. Crash
Police say alcohol was a likely factor in a weekend crash in James City County. The August 26, 2017 accident on Old Stage Road occurred just after 1:30 AM. When authorities arrived on site, they found a Mercury Grand Marquis that had run off of the road and struck a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the 17-year-old backseat passenger was airlifted to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
A third victim, the front seat passenger, is seriously injured but alive. The man was the only person in the car wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
We send our condolences out to the families of the victims and our best wishes go out to the young man recovering from his injuries.
Though the investigation into the incident is still going on, police suspect alcohol was a factor in this single-vehicle wreck. The timing of the collision makes sense, given that many people choose to go out for drinks late on Saturday nights.
In 2017, there is never any reason to get in a car with a drunk or buzzed driver. Even if a friend has confidence in their ability to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, there are so many safer options available in this era. Uber, Lyft and taxis are but a few taps on your smartphone away. Be smart: the next time you go out for drinks, make plans on how you’ll get home safely before you begin drinking.
