Head-On Crash in Franklin Co. Kills One, Injures Two
One person has been killed in a crash in Franklin County, Virginia. Two other people are recovering from injuries they sustained in the same collision.
Police say they responded to a call about a crash on Route 40 around 7:30 in the morning on August 11, 2017. They say the driver of a 1991 Toyota Tacoma was heading westbound near the Colonial Turnpike when he crossed the center line and struck a Ford F-250 head on. The driver of the Toyota died in the crash, while the driver of the Ford was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. Both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. A passenger in the Ford truck was not wearing their seat belt, though, and was seriously injured in the collision.
The investigation is still ongoing, so there aren’t a lot of answers right now. We send our condolences out to the family of the victim, as there are undoubtedly many questions on their minds. We also send our best wishes out to the injured victims who are still recovering.
Head-On Collisions
Head-on collisions like this one are some of the deadliest kinds of car accidents. There’s just not much margin for error when it comes to colliding head-on. Unlike the sides and backs of vehicles, there’s also not a lot of safety features installed in the front of vehicles. Head-on collisions are frequently caused by drowsy, drunk and distracted drivers. Until the investigation is complete, we won’t know for sure why this accident occurred.
