100 Infant Deaths Linked to Recalled Fisher-Price Sleeper
The CPSC has reported approximately 100 infant deaths stemming from the use of these products. Although, Fisher-Price says that the cause of death for some of the reports have yet to be confirmed.
On April 12, 2019 Fisher-Price recalled its Rock ‘n Play inclined sleepers after 30 deaths were reported. On Monday, the company recalled the product for a second time after 8 more infant deaths were reported after the initial recall.
A total of 4.7 million inclined sleepers manufactured by various companies were recalled back in 2019. You can find the list of recalled products on the CPSC Safe Sleep webpage.
What Makes Infant Inclined Sleepers Deadly?
Inclined infant sleepers make it easy for babies to roll onto their stomachs, putting them in unsafe, face-down positions that can lead to suffocation. Sleepers can also cause a baby’s head to tilt downwards, compressing their airway. Soft padding and other restraints can also increase a child’s risk of strangulation or suffocation.
What If My Baby Was Seriously or Fatally Injured?
If your baby was seriously or fatally injured by a recalled incline sleeper, consider contacting an attorney immediately to begin an investigation.
Holding these manufacturers responsible for their dangerous product designs is one way parents can seek justice. Filing a claim against Fisher-Price may provide a degree of closure and may even inspire positive changes that save lives. Financial awards can be used to cover the expenses related to your child’s injury or wrongful death, including medical care and funeral costs.
My Baby Wasn’t Injured, But I Own a Recalled Inclined Sleeper
If your baby has not been injured and you currently own a recalled incline sleeper, stop using the sleeper immediately and contact the manufacturer for a voucher or refund.
