Rights of Injured Pedestrians
Pedestrian accidents in Norfolk are, unfortunately, common. The crash site is in a mixed residential/commercial area near Old Dominion University. Colley Avenue is known to carry both vehicle traffic and pedestrian crossings, especially during the morning as people are moving to work, school, or running errands.
Without the protection of a vehicle, pedestrians are extremely vulnerable to severe injuries, including broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, and internal trauma. Recovery can be lengthy and costly, often involving hospitalization, rehabilitation, and long-term medical care.
Virginia law allows injured pedestrians to pursue claims if a driver’s negligence played a role in the crash. This can include speeding, distracted driving, or failure to yield the right of way. In accidents involving government vehicles, it is critical to contact an attorney as soon as possible due to legal deadlines.
