The selection process is multi-phased. The first step to becoming a Super Lawyer is through the creation of the candidate pool. Lawyers enter the candidate pool by being formally nominated by a peer or by being identified by the research department during the research process.
The second step is the evaluation of lawyers in the candidate pool. The research department evaluates each candidate based on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Some of these indicators include verdicts and settlements; representative clients; experience; honors and awards and others.
The final step to becoming a Super Lawyer is the peer evaluation by practice area phase. In this section of the process, the candidates are grouped according to practice area. The candidates with the highest amount of points from the first two steps review peers within their practice areas, rating them on a scale of one to ten. Once the scores have been tallied, those lawyers with the highest amount of points are selected.
