Mushroom Chocolates and Gummies Recalled Due to Health Risks
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for Prophet Premium Blends’ Diamond Shruumz mushroom chocolates and gummies. These products contain muscimol, a chemical not approved for food use, leading to serious health concerns.
The recall comes after reports of illnesses in over 20 states and a possible related death. By July 1, the FDA linked 48 illnesses to these products, highlighting the significant public health risk.
Prophet Premium Blends, located in Santa Ana, California, recalled all flavors of its Diamond Shruumz products. This includes Infused Cones, Microdosing Chocolate Bars, and both Micro- and Mega-Dose/Extreme Gummies. The recall was triggered by the discovery of dangerously high levels of muscimol, which can be toxic.
Reported symptoms include seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, confusion, nausea, vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and blood pressure fluctuations.
Health Risks of Muscimol
Muscimol is a compound found in certain mushrooms, especially those from the Amanita family. It’s known for its mind-altering effects, which can change how you perceive things, your mood, and even your behavior.
However, at high doses, muscimol is very toxic and can be deadly. The FDA is urging everyone to avoid Diamond Shruumz products and either throw them away or return them for a refund.
This recall impacts consumers in many states. So far, 27 people have been hospitalized, and one death is under investigation.
Symptoms of muscimol poisoning can be severe and include stomach problems, neurological issues, and heart-related symptoms. The unpredictability of muscimol’s effects and the lack of precise dosage in these products make them particularly dangerous for consumers.
