Pit Bull Attacks Virginia Beach Teen
A Virginia Beach teen is recovering after a terrifying pit bull attack in his neighborhood. The 14-year-old was walking to pick his siblings up from a nearby bus stop when a loose dog mauled him. Thankfully, neighbors were quick to intervene. They used a pole to separate the dog from the boy before attempting to put the pit bull in a headlock. Authorities arrived on site soon after. As police attended to the victim, the dog became aggressive with officers. Police shot and killed the pit bull.
Pit Bull Owner Charged
The dog owner was charged with having her dog off-leash in public. She also failed to keep the dog’s rabies vaccine to date and was charged for the expiration. Reports show that this is far from the first time the dog in question was found wandering off-leash. The victim’s mother told reporters she previously chased down the dog and loaded it into her car before returning it to its owner. A visitor reportedly let the dog out of its home accidentally before the attack occurred.
At Home and Recovering
The teen suffered lacerations to his head and required surgery to reconnect parts of his right ear. As his injuries heal, he may struggle with the psychological impact of the attack. Dog bite victims often develop anxiety and phobias around dogs. Some struggle to heal emotionally as well as physically. Given the long road to recovery, many dog bite victims opt to pursue legal action against the dog’s owner. Nothing can undo the damage that has been done, but a dog bite lawyer can help victims recoup the financial costs associated with the attack.
