Woman Killed by Drunk Driver in Virginia Beach

need-an-ambulance-1512594A Florida man is facing charges after his involvement in a Virginia Beach car accident, police say. The June 3rd, 2018 accident occurred around 10 PM on Great Neck Road. Authorities say the driver struck a vehicle turning onto Great Neck. Both the at-fault driver and their passenger fled the scene on foot. Tragically, the woman at the wheel of the other car involved in the collision died of her injuries.

Police eventually apprehended the men, providing medical treatment for their minor injuries are charging the driver with driving while intoxicated, involuntary manslaughter, hit-and-run and refusing a blood alcohol test.

From Bad to Worse

There’s no doubt that the at-fault driver made bad choices on this fateful night. The decision to drive drunk is always a bad one. His choice to do so led to the fatal accident. But his decision to flee the scene of the incident made a bad situation much worse. He and his passenger likely faced far more serious consequences because of their decision to flee. While the driver certainly would have faced DUI charges had he remained on scene, the fact that he fled the scene and tried to escape responsibility for his actions reflects poorly on him.

Duty of Care

All drivers have a duty to provide assistance to those involved in car accidents. Even if the at-fault driver could not provide medical assistance to the victim, a call to police would have sufficed. If you ever find yourself involved in an accident, always be sure to offer help when you can.
