need-an-ambulance-1512594Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Chesapeake. Reports say that the three-vehicle incident happened just before 8:00 AM on Sunday, February 12, 2017. The driver of a Nissan Altima was heading south on I-664 in Chesapeake when he crossed over the median into the northbound lane. The Altima struck a Ford F-150 and a Lexus GS300 head on.

When emergency workers arrived on scene, they worked to rescue the driver of the Nissan who had become trapped in his vehicle. He was freed and taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Tragically, the driver of the Lexus was killed in the accident. No one in the Ford was injured.

We send our condolences to the family of the man killed in this awful crash. A Sunday morning drive should be incredibly peaceful. No one could have anticipated a crash like this one.

Head-On Collisions

Head-on collisions are one of the most deadly kinds of car accidents. They’re often caused by drowsy drivers who fall asleep at the wheel and veer off into oncoming traffic without realizing their mistake. Given the relatively early hour of this particular crash, it’s not out of the question that drowsy driving is to blame.

Experts say drowsy driving could be as dangerous – if not more so – than drunk driving. And though most of us would never dream of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, many people will admit to driving while tired. Accidents like this one remind us of just how dangerous that decision is – and why it’s so important to get a full night’s sleep before hitting the open road.
