Reversing truck kills woman and injures kids

A reckless driver in Russell County has caused a deadly accident, sending two children to the hospital and killing a woman. The accident occurred on July 16 when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado backed out of a driveway onto Route 19. The driver of a Dodge Caravan heading south on Route 19 struck the truck, sending the vehicle off the road where it flipped four times before landing. The driver of the truck was killed and the two children passengers were injured. The driver and passenger of the van were also injured in the accident.

Police say the driver of the van is facing reckless driving charges after the accident. The incident is under investigation, authorities report.

Kids Wearing Seat Belts

The one saving grace of this accident? The kids were wearing their seat belts. This crash just goes to show that it’s never too early to put on your seat belt. They had just pulled out of their driveway when they were struck. Many people buckle up as they pull out and hit the road, but these kids lives were saved by their proactive move. Before the car is put into drive, make sure you and all your passengers have their seatbelts buckled.

We send our condolences to the family of the victim and send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. There’s nothing scarier for a child than being involved in such a deadly crash. Losing a loved one, too, will undoubtedly be very hard for them. We hope they get the care and support they need in this difficult time.
