One Dead in York Co. Hit and Run
Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver they say was involved in a fatal accident this week. The March 14, 2017 accident in York County sent a woman to the hospital with fatal injuries.
Investigators say the crash occurred on Denbigh Blvd., near RIP’s Food Store. A Lincoln Towncar and a Ford Ranger were both headed westbound on Denbigh when a Chrysler 300 heading east veered into oncoming traffic. The Chrysler sideswiped both the Lincoln and Ford. The Ford ran off road and into a ditch, while the Chrysler spun out in the road. The 81-year-old woman at the wheel of the Ford Ranger suffered serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital where she later succumbed to those injuries.
The Chrysler 300 also ran off road in the accident. The driver fled the scene of the crash on foot. Newport News police dogs assisted in the hunt for the fleeing driver, but were unsuccessful. Local schools were placed on lock down while the search continued.
The hunt for the suspect continues. In the meantime, we send our condolences out to the family and loved ones of the woman killed in the crash. We can only hope the driver at fault will be held accountable for his or her negligence behind the wheel.
