Ice Cream Truck Driver Charged with Hit and Run
A sunny weekend in Sandbridge turned dangerous when the driver of an ice cream truck opted to drink and drive. Police say the woman in question was arrested Sunday, July 15, 2018 after crashing her ice cream truck into a car. She fled the scene, leaving three injured people in her wake. Authorities eventually tracked down the at-fault driver, charging her with three counts of felony hit and run and with a DWI. The three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries said not be serious in nature.
Options for Victims
The victims involved in this crash may want to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault driver. It is always selfish to drink and drive, but to do so in a vehicle intended to attract children and families is especially reckless. Should the victims wish to pursue compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering, a Virginia car accident lawyer may be able to help. At the very least, these victims should be seeking compensation from the ice cream truck’s auto insurance company.
Summer Dangers
Take this opportunity to talk to your kids about the dangers of ice cream trucks. Even though these relatively benign vehicles are usually quite safe, it’s smart to review safety tips with your children each summer. Never approach an ice cream truck unless it is stopped, and avoid stepping into the path of any vehicle, even one like an ice cream truck. When little ones have ice cream on their minds, it can be difficult to focus on anything other than their snack, but reviewing safety tips can keep everyone safe all summer.
