Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested After Fatal Norfolk Crash
Police have arrested a driver suspected of striking a pedestrian and leaving the scene of the accident.
The incident occurred on Friday, September 2nd on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. Police received a call that a pedestrian had been hit at the intersection of Tidewater Drive and Goff Street around 9 P.M. When they arrived at the scene, the man was unconscious. He was taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities were looking for an Audi with front driver’s side damage, and found the suspect on Saturday. She was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run and is being held without bond.
Hit-and-Run Accidents
We send our thoughts and best wishes to the family of the man killed in this accident. Reports indicate that he lived very nearby where the crash took place. The old statistic that accidents happen most frequently within a few miles of home is holding true in this case.
Sadly, hit-and-run crashes like this one are on the rise across the country. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently found that one in five pedestrian deaths are hit-and-runs. Many times, the driver is drunk or distracted at the time of the crash. Other times, the driver is fleeing police because of previous legal trouble that has them on probation. There’s no one motivation for the actions of hit-and-run drivers, but they all have one thing in common: a disregard for both human life and the law.
