Fatal Norfolk Car Accident Kills Young Child

Life can change in an instant. An afternoon drive with the kids can turn fatal in a moment. That’s the reality one Norfolk family is dealing with after the loss of their nine-year-old son. The accident occurred when a pickup truck heading southbound on Llewellyn Ave. collided with a minivan heading westbound on W. 27th st. The minivan continued on, crashing into a utility pole. The boy in the back of the minivan was ejected from the vehicle in spite of the seat belt he wore. His young friend, also a back seat passenger, was also ejected in the crash. The second boy is expected to survive his injuries, but sadly, the nine-year-old passed away at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

Both drivers involved in the accident also suffered injuries. Authorities say the incident is still under investigation, but they have determined that alcohol was not a factor in the wreck.

A family and community are now in mourning. A young boy has lost his best friend. Fatal car accidents are always tragic, but losing such a young boy is especially difficult. Collisions can happen in the blink of an eye, and cause long-lasting, senseless damage. We send our condolences out to the family of the victim, and best wishes to those injured in the crash.
