Head-on Collisions

Head-on collisions like this one can have a variety of causes. Given the early hour of the crash, there’s a good chance that drowsy driving is to blame. Not unlike drunk or drugged driving, drowsy driving can be incredibly dangerous. Shift workers who work the graveyard shift or particularly long hours are some of the most at-risk drivers. Anyone who doesn’t get enough sleep – be it tractor trailer drivers, drivers on road trips, or professional drivers – is at risk of falling asleep at the wheel.

Drowsy Driving Accidents

When polled by the National Sleep Foundation, 60% of Americans admitted having driven while feeling sleepy . 37% actually admitted to actually having fallen asleep at the wheel in the past year. These scary statistics are a real wake-up call to anyone who has ever risked drowsy driving.

Be proactive the next time you’ve got a long drive ahead. Get at least seven hours of sleep the night before and avoid alcohol or medications that might make you sleepy. And if you’re really tired, be honest with yourself! Have a friend drive, or pull over for a nap. It’s never worth the risk of falling asleep at the wheel.
