Wise County Crash leaves 2 teens dead, 3 injured
On July 8, 2012 a deadly car crash in Wise County leaves two teenagers dead and three teenagers injured. The crash occurred at 3:30 a.m. on State Route 23 near the Esservile intersection.
Five Wise Central High School students were traveling in a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle when it lost control around a corner and where the car crashed and flipped over a guardrail, rolling down an embankment. Police believe the driver of the car, a 17-year-old female who had recently graduated from Wise Central High, was driving at excessive rates of speed when the crash happened.
Two teens were ejected from the vehicle along with two other occupants. One person was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. Another was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the accident was airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center and was treated for her injuries. The two other occupants were transported to Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton to receive treatment for their injuries.
Police reported that the teens were returning from the Huddle House where they had gotten a late-night breakfast when the crash occurred. The driver of the car is facing possible criminal charges.
